We are Vesta and Norma Giles, a daughter and mother who love to knit and grew tired of putting boring buttons on beautiful handknit creations.

We started making our own buttons out of Polymer Clay and began getting requests from friends and family. Everyone was looking for unique buttons to add to handmade and even store bought clothes and accessories.

We’re hard at work coming up with new colour combinations and designs for buttons and jewelry every day from our home studio in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada!

Why Vandelso?

We have been asked many times where our name, “Vandelso Designs” comes from. The answer lies in our love of our heritage and family history. Vandelso is a tiny island off the west coast of Sweden where many of our ancestors came from.

In the early 1800’s they, along with a small group of others, tried to start the Baptist Church in Sweden. This did not sit well in the then all Lutheran kingdom. They were promptly ordered to leave the country. With a pioneering and somewhat rebellious spirit they left for America and settled in the area now known as Houston, Minnesota.

Many died in the first winter in their new home, but others survived. This is good, because we wouldn’t be here if they didn’t! The rebels were later pardoned by the King, but none of them ever returned. So, in honour of their pioneering never-give-up spirit, we named our company Vandelso Designs!
